ABOUT CENTRAL
MARKET ENVIRONMENT
In the last decade, Timor-Leste has created the necessary conditions for its development. Faced with the task of rebuilding public infrastructure and institutional structures, the country has made significant progress in key areas since independence, achieving political stability and confidence in the State. Today, Timor-Leste is a peaceful and democratic nation and, although poverty levels remain very high, there has been an improvement in living standards.
The country continues, however, to face challenges, with its economic growth dependent on public spending and revenue from natural resources. Investments in human capital will have a direct impact on Timor-Leste’s productivity, competitiveness and future, as only a robust and qualified workforce can meet market demands and generate individual and national wealth. Encouraging economic growth led by the private sector thus becomes of vital importance for job creation.
CENTRAL thus operates in an emerging economy, within a market of high-growth potential.
A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Welcome to the website of CENTRAL!
Setting up a business in a young country with rapidly changing political and social landscape means, on the one hand, being part of a poorly structured market and on the other hand, that the core values of the strategic agenda must include economic inclusion and prosperity in order to make the company´s development possible. Our purpose in Timor-Leste has always been to follow closely the country´s development and to grow with it in the long term by means of clear and demanding goals so as to contribute to a future which can take place every day.
Over two decades of continued activity, despite the crises, it was compliance with the best international business practices in addition to integration in the social context that allowed the creation of a united team which is fully committed to the company and its mission, and able of turning CENTRAL into a Timorese retail company all others are measured against.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of CENTRAL, I am committed to making sure that we do everything to continue to offer quality products while earning the trust of our customers and partners.
